After an impressive showing at E3, a single player campaign that was absent in the first and some serious good pr with the announcement that all future dlc would be free, following the near full priced season pass content of the original. The force is … slightly stronger than before in this oneĪmong a hailstorm of controversy and heavy backlash, its hard to believe that at one point people were happy with what EA were doing with Star Wars Battlefront 2. My thoughts and opinions on the game, are of the currently micro-transaction free version and this status is subject to change in the games future. As such my opinion on how they affect fairness in multiplayer, or if they make the game “pay to win” cannot be said. In the current version of Battlefront 2, the ability to purchase loot boxes with real money has been removed from the game.
The horror-like game mode where playable Ewoks in Star Wars Battlefront 2 hunted down terrified Stormtroopers, however, was an inspired decision.Disclaimer: Before starting my review of Star Wars Battlefront 2, I think its important to address the state of the game at the time of review and the loot box controversy. Few people, if anyone, asked for playable BB-8 and BB-9E, and their additions as the game’s final playable hero characters were disappointing. These updates were met with a mixed response, depending on the content. Sometimes the game’s developers went out on a limb and gave the community something they never asked for at all.

Some of these points were validated and addressed by DICE and EA, such as the need for more prequel heroes like Anakin and Obi-Wan. Throughout the journey that transformed the base game into something noteworthy, its forums were teeming with requests, complaints, suggestions, and bug reports from the very vocal player base. Some, however, implement functions, game modes, and characters that feel like they should have been there since the game’s launch.ĭespite its rocky debut, Star Wars Battlefront 2 became a great game through its updates, added content, bug fixes, and the complete removal of its infamous loot crate system. Considering the size and tenacity of the Star Wars fanbase, not all mods are worth a download, even if they’re free. These mods mostly pick up where the developers left off, taking inspiration from The Mandalorian, Knights of the Old Republic, Clone Wars, and even from Pandemic Studio’s original Battlefront series from 2004.
Developers EA and DICE may have stopped updating Star Wars Battlefront 2 back in April 2020, but now it’s the modding community’s turn to add its own ideas and creations to the video game.
